Long Season

Where does Long Season keep saves, and does it work offline?

Saves are stored in your own browser using IndexedDB and localStorage, never on a server, and the game is installable as a web app that runs offline after your first visit.

Where saves live

Save slots and whole leagues are kept in the browser on your device, using IndexedDB and localStorage. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no server side account to lose and no one else can read your dynasty.

The trade is that clearing browser data deletes saves, so export anything you care about before you clear site data or reinstall the browser.

Backing up with export and import

The Saves screen can export a single save slot or a whole league as a JSON file, and import one again later. That is the way to back up a dynasty, or move it to another computer. Export before clearing browser data and nothing is lost.

An exported JSON file is plain text, so it is easy to keep in the same place you keep other saves and documents.

Installing for offline play

Long Season is a progressive web app. Install it from your browser, and after the first visit the game runs offline. Saved leagues keep working without a connection, and updates download on the next online visit.

The simulation runs on your device, so no game state depends on a server. Historical season data downloads the first time you open a season, so open the ones you want while online.

Playing on phones

The same install works in a mobile browser, and an iPhone and iPad app is in the works. The app makes no network requests at all and stores everything on the device. See the FAQ for details on platforms and privacy.
