Questions and answers
- Is Long Season free to play?
- Yes. Long Season is free to play in a web browser. There is no payment of any kind and no advertising in the game.
- Do I need an account?
- No. There is no account and no sign in. Open the site and play.
- Does Long Season work offline?
- Yes. The game is installable as a web app, and after your first visit it runs offline. Saves, rosters and leagues live on your device.
- Where are my saves kept?
- Saves are stored in your own browser using IndexedDB and localStorage. They are never sent to a server. Clearing your browser data deletes them unless you exported them first.
- Can I export or import a league?
- Yes. Save slots and whole leagues can be exported and imported as JSON files from the Saves screen, so you can back up a dynasty or move it to another computer.
- Does Long Season work on phones?
- Yes, the game runs in a mobile web browser. An iPhone and iPad app is in the works, built from the same game, but it is not available yet.
- Are there real teams or players?
- The default leagues use 30 fictional clubs in real cities. The historical modes replay real seasons from 1900 to 2019 built from public historical baseball statistics published in the Lahman baseball database, so their rosters are the recorded players of those past seasons.
- How long is a season?
- Franchise mode uses a 162 game season by default, adjustable from 20 to 162. The playoffs include 12 teams by default, and four playoff formats are available.
- What stats does the game compute?
- The game computes and shows AVG, OBP, SLG, OPS, ERA, WHIP, saves, BABIP, ISO, wOBA, wRC+, OPS+, ERA+, FIP, K/9, BB/9, HR/9, K/BB, a simplified WAR for batters and pitchers, and win probability. Every game produces a full box score.
- How are games simulated?
- Every game is simulated pitch by pitch through pitching, contact, fielding and baserunning. Seeded random numbers make a game reproducible, and the league is calibrated to modern offensive levels: batting average about .250, home runs on about 2.8 percent of plate appearances, strikeouts on about 23 percent.
- Is there an iPhone or iPad app?
- An iPhone and iPad app has been built but is not yet on the App Store. The app makes no network requests at all, and everything is stored on the device.
- Do you track me?
- There are no accounts, ads or tracking. The web version counts aggregate page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies. The iOS app makes no network requests.
